FAQ - Greek Orthodox Icons
1. Are the items you advertise on your site genuine antique pieces ?
No. All the items on our web site, from the icons to the statues, are reproductions of the original antique masterpieces. The original pieces can be found in museums, archaelogical sites, galleries, monasteries, churches and private collections not only in Greece but all over the world. All the items bear the signature of the hagiographer and the seal of authenticity which guarantees that they are exact replicas of antique artworks and that they are handmade in Greece.
2. What are the silver icons made of ?
All the silver icons are made from 950o proof sterling silver. The painted parts are all handpainted. The golden parts are 24K gold. The frame is solid black timber.
3. What are the handpainted icons made of ?
All the handpainted icons are made of traditional materials using old painting techniques : First the wood is carved in the size and shape of the icon. Then a very thin 24K gold leaf is applied on the frame. The outprint of the images is handsketched on the icon with charcoal. All the colours are based on egg tempera and are being applied by hand. The faces of the Saints are coloured last. The finishing is a special natural varnish.
4. Are the handpainted icons really "handpainted" ?

Yes, all the icons on our web site are made 100% by human hand. The certificate of authenticity on the back of every icon certifies that (left picture).We don't sell any silkscreened or otherwise made icons.
5. What is the shipping cost for an icon ?
The shipping options for an icon are the
following :
Standard mail shipping (ca. 2 weeks delivery) : $15-$20 anywhere in the world.
UPS Express (2-3 days delivery & insurance) : $50-$60 anywhere in the world.
A combination of 2+ icons decreases the shipping cost/icon.. For more information on
multiple orders please contact us.
We are always trying to minimize the shipping cost for your benefit.
6. I am looking for something specific that I didn't find on your site. What can I do ?
It's simple : You should contact us and ask us ! There is a wide variety of icon images and other items (crosses, phylacteries, chalices, oil-lamps, etc.) that are not included in our web site. We welcome queries and reply to them within 24 hours at the very latest !
7. What if I don't like what I ordered ? Is there a money back guarantee ?
