FAQ - Ancient Greek Sculptures
1. Are the items you advertise on your site genuine antique pieces ?
No. All the items on our web site, from the icons to the statues, are reproductions of the original antique masterpieces. The original pieces can be found in museums, archaelogical sites, galleries, monasteries, churches and private collections not only in Greece but all over the world. All the items bear the seal of authenticity which guarantees that they are exact replicas of antique artworks and that they are handmade in Greece by expert artisans.
2. What are the life size statues made of ?
There are mainly two categories of statues based on the material
they are made of :
2.1. The statues that seem "white" in the pictures (like Heracles,
Athena, Atlas, etc.) are made of fine white alabaster and can be coated - upon request -
with a special marble or bronze patina so as to seem as if made of these materials.
2.2. The other life size statues (like Venus of Milo, Poseidon, Hermes of Praxiteles, etc.) are made of top quality fibre reinforced plaster of Paris and are coated with a special archaic patina finishing which resembles the aged appearance of the original statues (marble, clay, bronze, etc.).
3. What are the smaller size statues, busts and relieves made of ?
In this case the material is either fine white alabaster or bonded marble and a special archaic patina.
4. Are the statues appropriate for outdoor use, particularly in wet conditions ?
Only the alabaster statues are appropriate for outdoor use, also in wet conditions, freezing temperatures, heat, wind etc. As long of course as there is a minimum care as a stable solid ground to stand on and regular cleaning with a soft cloth. Of course they must not be put under or near objects that can fall on them and may cause damage.
5. What is the shipping cost for a LIFE SIZE statue (a statue with a height of more than 5 ft.) ?
This varies depending on the individual statue's dimensions and weight. In any case you should calculate a minimum shipping cost of $800 for U.S. destinations (delivery to your door). All the statues are packed in special wooden containers and are insured during transit. They are accompanied by an export permit from the Greek Ministry of Culture, which certificates that they are modern reproductions and not original antique works of art (to avoid misunderstandings at the Customs).
6. What is the shipping cost of the smaller size statues, busts and relieves ?
The shipping cost here also varies as
follows :
6.1. Items under 2 kg (4.4 pounds) weight :
Standard mail shipping (ca. 2 weeks delivery) : $20 anywhere in the world.
UPS Express (2-3 days delivery & insurance) : $70 anywhere in the world.
6.2. Items between 2 kg (4.4 pounds) and 5 kg (11 pounds) weight
:
Standard airlift shipping (ca. 3 weeks delivery) : $40-$60 anywhere in the world
UPS Express (2-3 days delivery & insurance) : $80-$100 anywhere in the world.
6.3. For heavier items or a combination of different items
shipping only via UPS Express and varies from $100 to $200 (anywhere in the world).
A combination of 2+ items decreases the shipping cost/item. For more information on
