Ancient Greek life size helmet from the city of Thespeia, dated to the 5th century BC.
During the Persian invasion of 480 BC Thespeia and Thebes were the only Boeotian cities to send a contingent to fight at Thermopylae, Thespeia sending a force of 700 hoplites who remained to fight beside the Spartans of King Leonidas on the final day of the battle. (find out more about Leonidas…)
