St. Martha

A beautiful Greek Orthodox icon of St. Martha, handmade & hand painted by an expert Greek hagiographer.

Martha of Bethany was the sister of Lazarus and Mary and lived in the village of Bethany near Jerusalem. She is the middle child of her family with Lazarus being the eldest and her sister Mary the youngest. She was witness to Jesus’ resurrection of her brother, Lazarus. Martha is the patron saint of servants and cooks.

Made using traditional materials (selected aged timber frames, egg tempera, 24K gold leaf, natural powder paint and varnishes) and old techniques, this icon is an exact reproduction of an antique Byzantine masterpiece.

The icon bears the artist’s signature on the front and the seal of authenticity on the back.
