Greek Hoplite sword from Campovalano, Italy, 6th-5th century BC. The blade is made of high carbon steel. The grip is constructed by riveting layers of bone and steel to the thick blade tang. The accompanying scabbard is wood overlaid with leather and finished with brass fittings.
