This magnificent Bull’s Head rhyton is a characteristic example of Minoan art. It is a libation vase, which was filled with the appropriate liquid through a hole in the neck and emptied through another hole on the muzzle.
The Minoans and Myceneans seemed to have worshiped a religion centered around the bull. The original, which was found in one of the graves below the site of the palace of Agamemnon, is made of silver with horns and a rosette of gold.
Dated to the 16th century BC, National Archaelogical Museum, Athens.
