An exact reproduction of the Olympic Torch of 1896, the first modern
age Olympic Games, which were held in Athens.
Back in 1896, every night after a day of Games was completed,
there were torch-light processions, bands played the different national
hymns, and the students of the university got up ovations under the
windows of the foreign athletic crews, and harangued them in the
noble tongue of Demosthenes. The next day, after the opening
ceremonies before the King and Queen, the taking of the Olympic
oath, and the lighting of this Olympic torch, the Games commenced.
