Ancient Greek life size helmet with engraved owl from Athens.
Athens was the richest and most famous city-state in ancient Greece. Its sea-faring trade reached from Gibraltar in the West to the Middle East. Together with Sparta and other allied Greek city-states, they defeated the much larger Persian invasion army in the 5th century BC.
Athens is considered the city where Philosophy, Democracy and the Dramatic Arts were born.
The helmet bears an engraved owl, the emblem of goddess of wisdom Athena, patron god of the city bearing her name. The design was common for a high ranking officer of the Athenian hoplite army.
Dated to 440 B.C.
The helmet is offered with an optional marble stand to create a perfect display piece.
Handmade in Greece of solid bronze, an exact museum reproduction.
