A beautiful Greek Orthodox icon of the Presentation of Jesus Christ to the Temple, handmade & hand painted by an expert Greek hagiographer.
The Presentation of Jesus at the Temple, celebrated on 2 February, celebrates an early episode in the life of Jesus. According to the gospel, Mary and Joseph took the baby Jesus to the Temple in Jerusalem forty days (inclusive) after his birth to complete Mary’s ritual purification after childbirth, and to perform the redemption of the firstborn, in obedience to the Law of Moses.
Made using traditional materials (selected aged timber frames, egg tempera, 24K gold leaf, natural powder paint and varnishes) and old techniques. It is an exact reproduction of an antique Byzantine masterpiece.
The icon bears the artist’s signature on the front and the certificate of authenticity on the back.
We can have any image or Christian scene hand made on commission. Please take a look at an indicative list of additional icons available, or contact us for more information.
